Which Top Soil is right for my garden?

Top soil is a very versatile medium with a variety of uses in the garden, which means choosing good quality soil that is fit for purpose is extremely important. Many people find the whole subject confusing and are often worried about ordering soil which does not suit their needs. We are often asked which type of top soil is right for a certain garden situation, so hopefully this walk-through will help you decide on the right one for you. First things first, quality is the most important factor when choosing a soil that will help your garden to thrive.  We recommend you avoid soil which is from a recycled source, as it is likely to contain inert material which can significantly reduce the quality and fertility of the soil.  Always ask your supplier for reassurance that the soil is from an ‘as dug’ or ‘virgin’ source before it is screened or processed. Recycled soils are more suitable for building up ground where quality is less important. Because top soils can be put to so many uses, here at The Lawn Store we offer a choice of several varieties. Each one is carefully chosen to combine the elements required for a specific task, and is the result of our experience gained over 25 years of top soil use and supply. Every one of our top soils has been screened to a fineness of either 6, 10 or 20mm. They are all available in 1 tonne dumpy bags (approx. 800 litres).
